Hastelloy B alloy has the following properties.
1. Control of iron and chromium at the lowest content to prevent the formation of β-phase Ni4Mo.
2. Excellent corrosion resistance to reducing environments.
3. Excellent resistance to moderate concentrations of sulfuric acid and many non-oxidizing acidcorrosion.
4. Very good resistance to chloride ion reduction stress corrosion cracking (SCC).
5. Excellent resistance to corrosion by various organic acids.
Metallographic structure of Hastelloy B:
Hastelloy B has a face-centered cubic lattice structure. By controlling the iron and chromium content to a minimum, the processing brittleness is reduced and the precipitation of Ni4Mo phase between 700 and 870°C is prevented.
Corrosion resistance of Hastelloy B:
The extremely low carbon and silicon content of nickel-molybdenum alloy Hastelloy B reduces the precipitation of carbon and other impurity phases in the weld heat affected zone, so that the weld seam is also sufficiently resistant to corrosion. Alloy Hastelloy B- 2 has good corrosion resistance in reducing media, such as hydrochloric acid solutions of various temperatures and concentrations. It also has good resistance to corrosion in moderately concentrated sulfuric acid solutions (or those containing a certain amount of chloride ions). They can also be used in acetic and phosphoric acid environments. The best corrosion resistance can only be achieved with a suitable metallographic state and a pure crystal structure.
Hastelloy B Application:
Alloy Hastelloy B has a wide range of applications in the chemical, petrochemical, energy manufacturing and pollution control fields, especially in the sulfuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric and acetic acid industries.
